Europe Trip day 7 Vatican City

We get up early and take the first bus to the Vatican City and get in line to tour St Peter's Basilica.  We are in line for hours but it was worth it.  We rode an elevator up as far as you can and then we climbed the circular stairs to the top.  

Europe Trip Day 6 Rome

On our first full day in Rome we bought a three day pass on a city tour bus.  We got on near our hotel and went all around the city.  There was an audio tour available so we could learn about all the famous sites.  

 We got off the bus after we had toured the whole city.  We walked around and enjoyed Rome.

Europe Trip Day 5 Rome

Klaus drove Gabi, Jim and I to Hanover airport and we all flew to Rome, Italy.  We took a bus to down town Rome and then walked to our Hotel.  It was an adventure pulling our luggage through the streets of Rome, following a map and trying to keep up with the men.  After arriving at our hotel we checked into our rooms and then went to a restaurant for dinner.  I ordered a calzone with ham, egg and cheese and it was huge.  I could not eat it all.  It is great to be in Rome.  

Europe Trip Day 4

Jim and I took the train to Hildeshiem and Gabi picked us up at the train station.  She took us to Wolfsburg to see Judith at work.  It was great to see her again.  She works at a fitness center as a trainer.

Europe Trip Day 3 Frankfurt and Heidelberg with the Guenthers

Jim and I started out our day walking around Bad Salzhausen.  It is a beautiful little town where people come to relax and get well.

Around 10:00 the Guenthers came and picked us up.  They first took us to Frankfurt and showed us the city.  Thomas grew up here and we toured his old neighborhood.

After touring Frankfurt we headed for Heidelberg.  We walked through the city and ate authentic German food for lunch.  We hiked up to the Heidelberg castle and enjoyed walking through its gardens.  Parts of the castle are being refurbished but most is still in ruins.
